Self Build CRHT Expert Seminar 18th May 2013

Following the launch of the first ever Self Build Week 4-12th May, Cumbria Rural Housing Trust is holding an Expert Self Build Seminar to help more people to build their own homes. Ted Stevens chair of the National Self Build Association (NaSBA) will open the event as keynote speaker.

Self build can help people into housing they can afford. Many people cannot afford the cost of a house on the open market, but could afford the construction cost of a new house.

The event ties in with a drive by government to increase the amount of self commissioned housing as Britain lags a long way behind other countries. Self build housing promotes diversity of design, higher quality and construction employment. The government has therefore launched a £30M Custom Loan Fund for self build schemes over 5 units, and included a requirement for Local Authorities to create a land supply for local self build schemes. Some Local Authorities have already stipulated that new housing must include a minimum %s of self build homes.

The seminar will provide expert advice for individuals, community groups and Local Authorities wanting to promote self build in their Districts. The idea is to cover all the key tasks required to get to construction - plot finding, finance, project management - but will not get into choices of construction methods which may be the subject of a follow on event.

The event is free. If you are interested please book via Jayne Potts 01768 210264 or myself Andy Lloyd 01768 210265 or pass the details to people you know.

We are looking forward to see some of you at this event!
